Cuffs and ladders competition at Fairborn blood drive

June 13, 2014

FAIRBORN — Firefighters from Fairborn and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will battle for bragging rights against Fairborn cops in the annual Community Blood Center (CBC) Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

The blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at American Legion Post 526, located at 526 Legion Lane. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment at www.DonorTime.com.

All Fairborn law enforcement is on one side of the battle line and fire and emergency medical crews from the Fairborn and WPAFB Fire Departments are on the other. The challenge is to recruit the most donors and score the most “votes” when their supporters register to donate.

Fairborn and WPAFB Fire and EMS went away with bragging rights last year, winning the Battle of the Badges by five votes. The biggest victory was for the blood supply, with 26 pints of blood donated. It was an upset win after a dominating showing by Fairborn Police the previous year.

Battle of the Badges supporters will have a good excuse to be out of uniform. Everyone who registers to donate will receive the “Donoritaville – Relax, lei back, donate… Givin’ is easy!” Parrot Head t-shirt featuring a parrot in straw hat and lei clutching an ice cream cone.

A summer donation will also put donors in the running for a new car. A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze is the grand prize in the CBC “Summer Cruze-In 2014 Blood Drive.” Anyone age 18 and older who registers to donate at any CBC Donor Center or CBC mobile blood drive May 30 through Sept. 30 will be automatically entered in the drawing to win the Chevy Cruze, valued at approximately $19,000. The “champagne silver” color of the Cruze is a toast to CBC’s “50 Years of Saving Lives” anniversary celebration in September. Official rules are available at www.givingblood.org.
