XENIA — Greene County Career Center Cosmetology teacher Lisa Bricker has been recognized as the Ohio School Boards Association Southwest Region Outstanding Faculty Member.
Bricker has taught at Greene County Career Center since 2001 and has established her program as one of Ohio’s leaders in State Board of Cosmetology certification passage rate. She was honored at the organization’s annual spring conference on March 11 at Great Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development in Cincinnati.
“I am very thankful for the recognition of my hard work and dedication to Greene County Career Center,” said Bricker, “As recipient of this award, I now know that my work as a mentor teacher over the past 8 years has been appreciated. I can truly sympathize with the pressure new teachers face learning how to teach our particular students while simultaneously become enculturated at in our school.”
Bricker has also been a dedicated mentor to teachers in other Cosmetology programs around the region.
“I’ve particularly enjoyed helping new Cosmetology teachers become proficient in their craft,” she added. “Thanks to Greene County Career Center, I have been able to contribute to the Human Services Career Field and Technical Content Standards, Math OGTs, and WebExam. “
She was nominated for the award by Board of Education member Gail Martindale from Cedarville, Superintendent Dan Schroer, and fellow Career Center teacher Terrie Bodey. Bodey’s nomination letter also drew attention to community service projects organized by Bricker and her students.
“Earlier in the school year when a member of her advisory committee told her about a local boy with leukemia, she immediately set her students to the task of organizing a “cut-a-thon” to benefit the family,” wrote Bodey. “They recruited stylists and businesses to participate, secured donations for a raffle and created flyers to publicize the event. They surpassed the monetary goal they set for themselves to raise.”
Bricker is a resident of Troy and a graduate of Troy High School and Wright State University.
