Mayor’s Beautifical Committee plans for spring

February 14, 2014

FAIRBORN — Despite the dreary winter, the Mayor’s Beautification Committee is looking ahead to spring and their search for the Fairborn homes with the most curb appeal.

This year’s committee members, Tammy Lake, Norma Nikkola, Terry and Sharon Burkert, George and Melinda Woodworth, Lee Walker, Tyler Martin, Kassie Hill and Nicole Walsh, held their first meeting on Feb. 12. They discussed the many exciting events planned for 2014.

To start the year, the committee will hold their annual Residential Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15at the Senior Center, 325 North Third St. Invitations to the event will be mailed out in March.

Each year the committee searches for those properties that showcase pride in their community with well maintained homes and beautiful landscaping. Shortly after the ceremony, the committee will begin their search for next year’s winners. The committee judges yards from March to August of each year.

However, this is only one aspect of what the Mayor’s Beautification Committee does each year. This year, they would like to expand their volunteer activities to include gateway cleanups to help ensure that Fairborn makes a great first impression.

All citizens interested in volunteering for these projects are welcomed. Information about these events will be available as the year progresses.
