WILBERFORCE – Central State University’s Center of Excellence in Fine and Performing Arts (CEFPA) serves as a cultural hub for promoting musical and artistic excellence in regional schools and communities as well as promoting local economic development. Central State University’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts has teamed with The Zoot Theatre Company to bring a world-class theatrical production to the Paul Robeson Cultural and Performing Arts Center on campus. This year’s production of The Pursuit of Wind continues a very successful four-year artistic and educational partnership between the two organizations.
The Pursuit of Wind, a story told in music, movement, spoken word and visual effects, explores the shared human experience of the pursuit of that which cannot be caught, but which can catch us and lift us as we turn. It features original scores by Dr. Lennard Moses, associate professor of music, and director of Percussion and World Music Studies at CSU; choreography by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company’s Artistic Director Debbie Blunden-Diggs and visual effects by Zoot Theater Artistic Director D. Tristan Cupp. The production includes music and dance students from CSU and members of the DCDC troupe.
The Pursuit of Wind is a part of the growing and popular theatre arts program at CSU. As a part of the four-year collaboration, D. Tristan Cupp said “The partnership with Central State has truly helped to further Zoot’s educational mission by allowing us to work with a campus full of talent and passion.” In discussing the theatre arts program at Central State, Activity Director John Fleming states that “throughout the year our students bring outstanding craft and commitment to the Department of Fine and Performing Arts productions and presentations. This is another opportunity for them to do so, with some of the most outstanding artists in the Dayton area. Theater is alive and well at Central State!”
The Pursuit of Wind will be performed for one weekend only 7 p.m. Saturday, March 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2. Tickets for The Pursuit of Wind will be on sale at the door at Paul Robeson Auditorium and will cost $1 for students with a Student ID; and $10 for general admission.
