XENIA (WDTN) — A Greene County Grand Jury has determined officers were justified in the shooting death of Paul E. Schenck during a standoff in Yellow Springs.

The grand jury heard testimony from six witnesses Monday before determining no charges should be filed against the officers involved in the July 30 standoff.

A report by Ohio Attorney General Greg DeWine’s office found Schenck fired 191 shots at officers before he was hit and killed by return gunfire.

Schenck’s family argued police handled the situation poorly saying it was well known Schenck was mentally ill.

Police fired four shots during a standoff with Schenck. Officers were first called to the home on a report of a domestic dispute between Schenck and his son.
